Sometimes, the evilest happens with the most undeserving. Even the thought of a little child getting cancer is so depressing. The days, months or even years that should be full of fun and playing around; they have to bear so much pain. Like many of you, I am a big admirer of Brandon of “Humans of New York”. His stories are always heart touching. But the recent series he started, is not an easy one. As he mentioned, the stories are war stories. A battle with pain, hopelessness and a demon living inside. But still, even in such situations, these stories are having an unbelievable courage and some smiling faces. This is my tribute to all these fighters!!!
A flower budding in wind and fire…
A hurting body but strong desire…
Even if the devil keeps the inside lit…
The little angel is not ready to quit…
Toys are changed with needles and pills…
Stress, guilt, pain and mammoth bills…
But the hopeful soul is not ready to bend…
As the light is coming from the tunnel’s end…
They are not alone fighting the odd…
Who says you can’t see the god???
Some stay with us and wear a white coat…
And steer to shore the drowning boat…
But the devil inside is cruel and strong…
And it takes some evil to kill the wrong…
They have to take venom, to crush the hidden…
Even if the poison will make them bedridden…
The fight is long with so many stairs…
So much to lose, immunity and hairs…
Hopelessness, depression and enormous pain…
But for the reward of life, nothing is in vain…
With the blessings of a mother’s prayer…
Fear, ache and wounds repair…
With care and devotion of a father’s love…
Even from the lowest, one can rise above…
Even if the battle is almost lost…
And the disease is ready to take its cost…
The little face will never lose its smile…
Because loved ones are there for the while…
The word cancer is itself a nightmare…
It hurting the innocent kids is so unfair…
I wish it never happens to anyone…
As children only deserve happiness and fun…
Not sure how I found this blog, but know that you are doing great work. No child should suffer, no living thing should suffer with such a devastating disease. Your writing is amazing – it kinda makes your heart ache.
Thanks Manish, yes it’s very emotional!!!
Emotional stuff!
Yes it is 🙁
These words completely sketch pain n hardships experienced by a child suffering from cancer and his family. They are the Little fighters of gardens n streets not of a deadly disease. Good work Lily. !!
Thanks Tanay
Not many can feel the pain of others and put them in such honest words…great work!
Not happy to read it. .cz like you, I pray it never happens to anyone!
I pray that too!!
